mod to modern

At last, my website, my baby, she is up and running! My web designers, the ever patient, clever Penny and the wonderful, cheerful Lia have made it so. Am... very...happy... I hope that anyone reading this will drop me a line or two. How about a whatsup from yall?
I am busy working on new sweater designs and I have so many ideas whipping around the old noggin. I did some great shots at my studio with my neighbor Nicole , the filly with the ponytail on the photos and friends page. She was a great sport what with the posing and twisting and smiling and sitting and balancing on one foot on a stack of phone books. And she is as pretty as she is good natured. Thanks Nicole.
I hope to focus on the graphic side of my designs, that is, more interpretations of pattern and colour. If anything, I hope people will respond to the colour (Canadian spelling peeps!) that I use. I always want to avoid too much contrast, otherwise things can feel kinda clowny and somewhat unwearable. I want most for the woman to be seen first. She just happens to be wearing one of my sweaters, not that the sweater is wearing her.
On another note, I guess one of my pet peeves of indie clothing construction is any clothing finished with just a serged edge. You know if you turn your shirt inside out you will see serged edges. That is where a serging machine cuts and sews seams together and makes the them strong and durable. Some folks use this serged edge to finish their garment instead of folding the ends over and hemming the edge which is more work. Although it is a way to introduce colour along that edge by using contrasting thread, to my eye it is unfinished. Just sayin'
I saw Peaches the other evening and she now has a band behind her. She is such a big personality but it must have been tough to do gigs alone armed with only her loops for company. She is an amazing show woman and can control a room the size of the Commodore here in Vancouver. A proud Canadian too although I bet she can control any room any where she goes. But what with the volume? It can be too freakin' loud even with earplug foamies jammed in. My greatest fear is that my tinnitus will get worse if my drums are exposed to any more trauma. Just a reminder to anyone going anywhere loud, esp. gigs, car races, etc... always bring and wear your ear plugs! You do not wanna have a loud constant (yesneverending!) noise in your head like me! I always wnt to go to gigs though, but hey mister mixer guy, bring it down to below damage levels. Keep it loud enough to kick our asses but jeez if it just sounds like feedback at a mind control facility you gotta put a lid on that thing! Any whoo, enough for now ... yer pal, Michelle, signing off.
